Why Do I Need my Wisdom Teeth Removed?
Wisdom teeth are the third and last molars to appear. Some people never develop wisdom teeth at all! For those that have wisdom teeth, they may erupt normally or be impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth normally do not have enough room to grow in normally and may be angled towards neighboring teeth or the back of your mouth. Impacted wisdom teeth may cause pain, tooth decay, infection, or damage to neighboring teeth which is why removal is recommended.
When Should I Have my Wisdom Teeth Removed?
Wisdom teeth normally appear between the ages of 17 and 25. It is often recommended that wisdom teeth get removed while younger, even if you are not experiencing any pain. Removing your wisdom teeth at a younger age can help with a faster recovery. An early removal can also prevent the issues that can arise in the future, meaning you may not have to ever experience the consequences of wisdom teeth.
How are Wisdom Teeth Removed?
You can have your wisdom teeth removed right here in the office by our expert periodontist Dr. Robert Bouffard. Dr. Bouffard offers patients a non-narcotic/opioid sedation for your comfort and safety. The teeth are then carefully removed and self melting stitches are used to help prevent bleeding.
